Built in 1900, the former house of Tan Teng Niah is the last surviving Chinese villa in Little India. It embodies an often overlooked story of the days when small Chinese industries operated alongside the cattle and rattan businesses at Little India. We walked further out from the pedestrian walkways into a side road by Chander Road. With the sun slowly setting above, dimming the sky to a moody but consistent blue, workers from the nearby shops and hawker stalls streamed out and took a breather by the roadside, marking an end to another busy day in the bustling city of Singapore.

Not only is Singapore Botanic Garden the oldest garden in Singapore but it’s also the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It’s a place of true beauty. Open from 5am to midnight daily it’s free to visit, so good to have this vast green space open to everyone to enjoy. Families were enjoying the space, tourists and locals, some walking, some jogging, some meditating and some dancing in a group. It’s a real ‘peoples space’.
